Topic- Agricultural Processing And Food Engineering

One can divide this section into two sub-sections for better distinction between areas of concern.

Food Technology

Food Technology deals with engineering methods which are technically adoptable, economically feasible and culturally acceptable to process food for future consumption. There are various methods through which food procuring are being carried out. A detailed study of all these processes and structured involved in their uses are quite mandatory to understand the subject, e.g. Cleaning, Storage, Milling etc. are processes and structure involved are cyclone separator, silo bins and mills  etc. respectively. You have to deal with variety of physical parameter for each function e.g. Sphericity, Separation factor, Pressure at bottom of silo bin, Milling efficiency, Various geometrical diameter etc.

Agricultural Processing

Food Processing deals with processing of food for present and future consumption. All sorts of foods contain water thus perishable in nature. In order to make them long live we need to properly manage processing through various Physical, Chemical and Mechanical processes. To treat agricultural material properly it is imperative to know a wide range of heating parameters. You need to focus on Heat and Mass Transfer processes to adequately understand the transfer phenomena. Dimensionless number involved with heat and mass transfer process is also need to remember from exam point of view.GATE Perspective:- This section covers almost 25-30%  of total marks depending upon examiners. But leaving all uncertainty, this section atleast covers 15% in any condition. A comparative analysis of previous year papers will give a understanding that how weightage and toughness of  different sections varies with organizing institute. You can also share your analysis with your fellows and can also ask for theirs.

Topic- Soil and Water Conservation Engg.

This topic deals with a wide range of phenomena happening to soil and water in combined form. It deals with right from formation of soil to its erosion on one hand and from formation of cloud to occurrence of flood on other hand. Along with this, it also covers mechanical properties of soil, mechanics of fluid flow and underground water. After this one can jump to topics that deals with water, soil and plant as whole. This section constitutes various individual subjects such as,

1.     SOIL MECHANICS
2.     FLUID MECHANICS
3.     HYDROLOGY
4.     WELL AND PUMPS
5.     SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION
6.     IRRIGATION AND DRAINAGE

All these subjects are interlinked, means one will find easiness to understand section thoroughly if follows above said sequence. Each said subjects carries a number of chapters stated in GATE syllabus. So you need to study that syllabus meticulously in order to get firm command over subject.

GATE Perspective: - This section is very important from exam point of view. Without doing well in this section it is too difficult to secure commendable marks. This section carries nearly 25-30% of total weightage in which one can score about 25-30% means 100% with scrupulous attention towards subject.

These books will cover all the necessary chapter required for subjects. You also need to jargon all the important formula for each topics. There is a trend in GATE to ask directly formula based question related to especially fluid mechanics and soil mechanics. Well and Pumps also having some basics concepts and merely 5-6 formula, learn them for heart. In order to cover all section you need to look after each book and accordingly make strategy for topics mentioned in GATE syllabus.

Topic- Farm Machinery and Power

Farm Machinery and Power (FMP) is very interested and foundation course for Agricultural Engg. students. It covers a wide range of subjects, starts from indigenous plough to automatic thrasher from one side and bullock drawn implements to tractor drawn implement on another side but all aspects are inter linked in terms of their respective performance and efficiency. eg. Firstly you need to understand how a bullock drawn mouldboard plough works and what are various forces acting on that before going to deal with tractor drawn mouldboard plough. It’s always advisory to start from ground level. Once your basic is clear it will help you to deal with much wider set of problems effectively and efficiently, same is true for other subjects as well. Farm Machinery and Power mainly deals with farm implements and Tractor. From study point of view you can categorized these two subjects and accordingly you can plan for study.

·        Farm implements section deals with major farm equipment used in agriculture. Eg, Ploughs, Harrow, Cultivator, leveller, Seed drills, Sprayers, Reaper, Mower, Thresher etc. Although, each has its own types and usability based on various terrain conditions but you need to deal with major one and try to understand basics about particular application.

·        Tractors section deals with various constituents of tractor systems  such as engine, clutch, transmission, brake, steering, differential along with is cooling, lubrication, electrical system, hydraulics, three point geometry, traction theory etc. However, Numerical question asked from various sections are limited that you can collect and analyse from previous year questions.

Along with this FMP also includes Renewable energy section which consists of solar energy, wind energy and bio-mass. Taking a firm grasp at these topics will help you to put extra credit into your account.

GATE Perspective- FMP section constitutes minimum 20-25 percentage of total weightage. So by putting a valuable effort at this section you can score fairly well. What you need is to give attention towards chapter you found easier to understand, after that try to understand difficult one. Tractor section is easier as compared to farm section. So, try to accommodate that one first but parallel study is also important. To gain a respectable marks you need to give all section sufficient attention.

"Start a voyages for your dream" - With Abhay Agrawal (GATE AIR -01)

Let us, begin a journey whereby you can unleash your dream for a better future. I hope, Many have already started their preparation while many are still thinking to start. If you have started then its good but, if not, then it is the best time. GATE usually schedule to held between January and February, for more detail you can visit notification of GATE. Here I am giving particular attention on Agricultural Engg aspirants while others can also join us because math and aptitude syllabus is almost same for all branches.

I know, It is difficult in Agricultural Engg to score high because of lack of sufficient study material and deserted coaching institutes. I have even faced such difficulty during my preparation while graduating from Allahabad Agricultural Institute. I have also seen people willing to write GATE but lack of proper material and guidance strayed them. Their is a golden chance for aspirants to put fair effort for studies and get successful results. Its not about  relentless studies but always about quality of studying hours. Only mirroring book does not help, it is mandatory to crack any exam that you have to have a proper strategy, in order to get desired results. One interesting fact about GATE Agricultural Engg aspirants is that, even with marginal marks you can get into an IIT, and can even switch to another streams of other departments at various IITs, depending upon their performance in interview.

So

Hey guys....Whats up..???

I want to share some of my experience related to GATE. I hope my experience will help you.

I was a GATE aspirants in 2013 from agricultural Engg. stream. I gave sufficient devotion to my studies and got back reward with GATE RANK -01. I am going to start a blog in order to bring all aspirants around one table. So come forward and share your difficulties and doubts..I'll try to make you satisfy with my suggestions....If this blog helps a single of student and make them better off then i will think my writing is fruitful.
